Errors

General ledgers in a manual accounting system consist of several accounts that contain all transactions affecting the account. The trial balance is prepared based on the balances of the accounts, a process that starts from the original transaction to posting. Errors can occur during that process. These errors will affect the balances reported in the financial statements. There are reasons for errors, some of which can be prevented with routine verification and checking. Others are more difficult to find affecting the efficiency of the accounting function. Most human errors are avoided in computerized accounting systems, but wrong journal entries resulting from incorrect analysis can happen regardless of system.
