General ledgers in a manual accounting system consist of several pages, usually bound into a book. There is a separate page for every account, arranged according to the groupings and the order they appear in the financial statements. Two common formats are the T-account and 3-column structures. The structure is irrelevant in a computerized system. The program and processing routines take care of posting the general journal entries to the accounts.
